Waterbed Leaks Can Cause Stress, but SERVPRO Can Clean Up The Mess
Everyone loves and needs a good night’s sleep. There has been a lot of effort and science dedicated to achieving it. Between adjustable beds and memory foam, and then, of course, the waterbed, we have a myriad of options when it comes to what we sleep on each night. Waterbeds are strange for sure and feel sort of funny when you first sit on one, but they can give you the restful night’s sleep you are looking for.
A big problem with waterbeds is the fact that their main ingredient is water. If your bed ever becomes punctured, you could be in for a lot of water damage to your Lebanon home. Waterbeds on average hold gallons upon gallons of water, which, if it becomes released, you have a miniature tsunami in your bedroom.
It is best to do what you can to avoid your waterbed mattress from becoming punctured, but when an accident happens, and you have water everywhere, you need help from professionals. SERVPRO are the ones you want to contact to help you clean up the water and salvage your bedroom so that it can be your sanctuary once more.
When you discover a leak in your waterbed of any size, keep family members out of the room. You can damage carpeting by walking on it while it is wet. If it is a small puncture which you can stop from leaking, do so as soon as possible. For a larger leak with much water, turn off the power to the room while you await help from SERVPRO.
When our technicians arrive, we use special equipment to get the standing water out of the room first. Then we test moisture levels in all areas and rooms next to the affected one to figure out the extent of the damage. A combination of non-penetrating, penetrating, camera and infrared moisture detectors are used to assess the damage. Any non-structural, porous materials are also removed from the room to be restored if possible, including carpeting and padding.
The room needs to be sanitized as well with a surfactant and antimicrobial application, along with a HEPA air scrubbing setup to clean the air. We use a balanced drying system to ensure proper and fast drying of the room to prevent additional damage, such as mold.
