Flood Damage in Lebanon Can be Increased by Construction
Spring time is soon upon us and snow melts combined with the increase in new construction in the area, floodplains may have changed. These changes may affect your neighborhood.
When floodplains change in Lebanon, flood damage can become a reality with the first heavy rain or snow melt. When an area has new construction, especially when it involves shopping malls or sizable neighborhoods, there is less available ground that can absorb the water. Water can also change the path it takes as it drains away from higher ground. When pathways are altered, floods can happen.
Floods that happen because of new construction may be temporary problems that occur for a while, but then taper off in their frequency, or they may remain frequent and regular. If floods are regular but typically shallow, SERVPRO can install sump pumps that help protect your home from damage.
When floods are deeper, and last longer, we are always available to assist with the cleanup and repairs needed to bring your home back to how it should be. When floods become a regular occurrence, we can help reduce the amount of water that can enter your home by boarding up basement windows, entry doors, and lower floor windows. Boarding up cannot prevent all water out, but doing so can decrease the amount of water significantly.
After a flood, we can begin working to reduce the damage by removing any standing water and then lessening the humidity until it is within a normal range. Indoor humidity during a flood is often much higher than the air outside, so we always remove anything present from a board-up job before starting work. This greatly decreases the amount of drying time required and doing so also improves the results of our efforts. If security is an issue, we can always install temporary fencing around your property to give you peace of mind.
